Out of All the Ways to Wear Loafers, This Is How Everyone I Know Is Styling Them

There’s no doubt about it. As soon as the first hint of blossom is on the trees and slightly lighter mornings are here, we’re ready to hit spring mode. Seeing spring/summer 2022 trends flooding the new-in sections is enough to get us excited, and we can’t help but daydream about ditching the multiple winter layers. Until it gets warmer, though, we have to all ease towards the new season with baby steps. You know, swap your faux-fur coat for a trans-seasonal trench. Replace cosy cashmere sweaters in favour of lighter, fine knits. And then there are the boots. While we’ve loved wearing everything from chunky Chelsea boots to glossy heeled knee-highs for the cooler months, we’re ready to embrace all the new shoe trends. Enter loafers.

While we’re not quite ready to show off our fresh (most likely white), spring-ready pedi in toe-baring sandals, loafers feel like the right step towards embracing the new season. Because it’s still chilly, our fashion friends have been daring enough to flash an ankle but clever enough to all style loafers the same way: with leg-covering trousers. There’s something effortlessly stylish about pairing loafers with jeans or wide-leg tailored trousers. And if you’re not quite ready to get any body part out just yet, you can wear them with socks, too. Without further ado, these are seven loafer-and-trouser combinations you can wear already.

Style Notes: Scandi girl Pernille Tesibæk knows leather trousers and Chanel loafers have no bounds. While this particular pair can be tricky to get hold of now, Vestiaire Collective is the best place to track them down.

Style Notes: Monochrome always wins, and Sylvie Mus proves why in a white jeans-and-shirt combo finished with shiny black accessories. Pure perfection.

Style Notes: For those ankle-grazing tailored trousers we most likely all own, loafers are the finishing touch. A snaffle-chain detail never fails to impress.

Style Notes: Chunky loafers are the perfect companion to cropped jeans. Aïda never fails when it comes to making wardrobe staples work hard in her minimalist wardrobe.

Style Notes: Double denim is back, and so are the Prada loafers that have been big news since 2020. With no sign of waning, this white pair (below) will be a spring hit.

Style Notes: Who What Wear’s fashion editor, Joy, works retro two-tone penny loafers in with her creamy outfit. One to wear across all seasons, this is a classic look to adapt with layers depending on the weather.

Style Notes: An easy equation to copy, a leopard coat, high-neck top, jeans and loafers never fail. Switch to a vest top and shacket when spring arrives.

Next up, these are the most popular shoes of 2022.
